Riding Day 1 – 6 Hours gentle riding
Morning tea will be served on your arrival
The horses are saddled and once we have packed our lunch boxes and
cameras into the saddle bags we are off on the first of our wonderful adventures
into this flower filled alpine environment.
The mountains flank our trail making us feel very small in comparison as
we head out across the paddocks to find the meandering Ahuriri River. It’s ice
cold, aquamarine waters flow through the foot of the mountains stitching the
landscape together. This is a very special time of the year as the
lupins are in
full bloom and the air is heady with the
scent.
Your camera will be exhausted at the end of the day!
Luckily, we have electricity, hot showers and comfy beds tonight.
We enjoy a glass of wine with a hearty Kiwi roast dinner and desert
Riding Day 2 – 10am start _6 hours riding
After a farm cooked breakfast, tucker boxes packed we say goodbye to our
quarters as we head back onto the lupin trail. Today we ride in and out of the flowers and the
river all day long as we head
towards the picturesque clay cliffs.
Lunch is on the banks of the Ahuriri River.
*The afternoon sees us ride towards the Clay Cliffs
which are a stark sight- tall pinnacles separated by narrow ravines. These
otherworldly formations are made up of layers of gravel and silt. Originally
they were formed by the flow from ancient glaciers over a million years ago. *
